Snuggle room
Demented people or people with mental difficulties, use their senses more than average people and are usually more focused on body language. Research has shown that snuggle activities are calming and gratifying. For the former group snuggle activities enable family and nurses to make contact. Snuggling activities activates body language and the senses. Memories will pop up and they supply the participant with a feeling of recognition and trustworthiness more easily.

Snuggling is all about activities and items. Smelling, listening, tasting, touching, feeling and watching are very important. For watching, for example, we can use, mirrors, sparkles, coloured items, kaleidoscopes, etc. For touching you could think of cuddly toys, soft textile, clay, water, sand, pillows, etc. For hearing you could think of trusted, known, soft sounds or music. You yourself probably know some smells that make you think of pleasant memories.

With your group you are going to design a snuggle room. You will not have time to create the design in real life, so you are going to make a description of the design. That description can be supported via different ways: a drawing, scale model, textile, design on computer, etc. You are going to create a map on which shows where the snuggles are. The room you will have is about the size of a classroom, about fifty square meters. The materials you use for the snuggles should be safe, and clear enough to show what to do with them.
