Design and Create
Alle leerlingendocumenten
  1. Firstly you make groups of four to six students. Do this together with your teacher. In this group you are going to decide what new product you are going to design or improve. If you cannot think of something yourself, you can use one of the links underneath.

  2. You're going suggest a design. To create a decent proposition, you are first going to have to think about what requirements your product has to live up to.

    Example:

We want to design a new form of milk packaging that is:
    • Easy to store away in the fridge
    • Easy to open and close
    • Pours milk easily
    • Environment friendly packaging
    • Looks appealing

You could think of the following characteristics:
    • Original
    • Cheaper
    • Smarter
    • Enviroment friendliness
    • More modern
    • Target group
    • Use of colour

Draw up a list of all requirements to which your product should live up. Make a drawing of the product you want to design and consult your teacher before you continue.

  3. After brainstorming about your design you are going to draft a plan of action. You are going to write down how you are going to execute the design assignment: what are we going to do first, what happens after that, how long does this take, etc.? Divide the tasks and see if your plans are doable within the given time. Check your plan of action for reference. Together you are responsible for the final product.

  4. Try to determine the price of your product. Use an Excel sheet with (a rough estimation of) prices of materials and the costs of machines, tools and labour. Afterwards determine the sale price for costumers and motivate your choice.

  5. To be able to sell this product you need to commercialise it. You can do this in a various ways, for example by using a flyer, video commercial or a website. You are allowed to choose which way suits you best.

While making the commercial think of the following questions:
    • What does the product look like?
    • How does the product work?
    • What materials and production techniques have been used?
    • What are the costs?
    • What specific advantages does this product have in comparison with similar products?

  6. At the end of this webquest you are going to present your product. In this presentation you have to show the points listed above.
