Phases
The process of writing your profile paper is divided into six phases. Every phase involves a few points of interest, a plan of action, a deadline, a meeting with your supervisor and sometimes an assessment moment (a "go") to be allowed to continue.

The deadline is the final moment on which you can hand in something. Handing in your work after the deadline will lower your final grade. You can find a detailed overview of the assessment in the quest guide at your school. This guide also states whether you have to keep logboek and what the consequences of missing a deadline are. Make sure that the deadlines in your planning are realistic!

It is wise to apply the SMART-principle
when you make your planning and formulate your goals. This will help you keep a clear structure in this complex assignment.

In every phase you will have at least one meeting with your supervisor. Write down the results of this meaning on this meeting form.

You will frequently have work meetings when working in a group. Information on how to have an effective and efficient work meeting can be found in the document work meeting. This also provides background information about working in groups. This document is also available in the sources tab of this webquest.

Description of the phases:

Phase 0
The webquest will be introduced in class and you will form a group. The members of a group often have the same profile. You should discuss with your haco supervisor if you want to work with people who have a different profile. Below are some points of attention that will help you find a suitable topic for your profile paper (PP+).
Make sure that your topic has enough in common with the learning material from the two courses. Apart from your haco supervisor, you will also have two supervisors from the two courses that your topic relates to. These supervisors will be appointed by school. On your PP+ proposal form you will propose four topics. It may happen that not your first, but your second or your third proposal is approved. In this phase you will still get a lot of help from your haco supervisor to come up with a good topic.

Phase 1
Your group and topic are now determined. Now you and your group will expand your proposal. Come up with a useful research question, sub-questions and your hypotheses. Formulating a research question and sub-questions is not an easy process. Remember your webquest Research from havo 4?

Plan in your plan of action a moment on which you present your provisional research question, sub-questions and hypotheses to your supervisors. Contact your hbo supervisor or other supervisor from a company/institution. Make sure to plan a meeting in time so that you will still have time to adapt your research questions before your deadline.

Write down what you want to do and when you want to do it in your plan of action. This includes your contact with institutions, schools, students and supervisors.

Phase 2
In this phase you are going to conduct your literature research. Make a plan of action for this phase. It is inevitable that you often have to adjust your plan of action in this phase. Save all the different version so you can see in your reflection what you have changed. Also, plan a few meetings with your supervisor to discuss your progression and potential problems you have encountered. He or she can also reassure you that you are on the right track with your paper. Hand in your research report and save a copy in your project folder. During phase 2 you are also preparing phase 3.

Phase 3
In this phase you will determine what is going to be the second part of your research. Click on this link to find more information about what type of research would fit your research question.

The goal of your research is to create new and interesting knowledge. Your proposal should be approved by your supervisors. Your teacher will play an important role in this process. Afterwards you are going to conduct your research. As in the previous phase you will also make a plan of action. This will probably also need adjustment during this phase. Save all the different versions for your revision. Also plan a few meetings with your superviosr to discuss your progression and potential problems you encountered. He or she can also reassure you that you are on the right track with your paper.
External help can be very helpful in this phase. This help can come from a company or institution that gave you your assignment or from a test/research at a hbo-institution.

Hand in your research report and keep a copy in your project folder.

Phase 4
In this phase you will hand in a draft version of your profile paper. This includes your research reports and research question and sub-questions. Also include an argumentation for these questions. Additionally, write down whether your results are in line with your hypotheses.

Your supervisors will assess your paper on its content.

They will return your draft version so you can make some final adjustments.

Phase 5
In this phase you will hand in the final version of your profile paper.

Phase 6
After you finish your paper, you will start working on your presentation. You have to make use of digital presentation method (Powerpoint, Prezi, etc.).
Discuss with your supervisors when, where and for whom you can give your presentation. Your audience can be parents, classmates, supervisors or people that work for the institution that gave you your assignment. Make a plan of action and a clear division of tasks. The task should be equally divided during the presentation.

Further requirements are outlined in the quest guide for your school.
