The Neighbourhood
Neighbourhood - (1) A district or community within a town or city; (2) The area surrounding a particular place, person, or object ; (3) Mathematics: The set of points whose distance from a given point is less than (or less than or equal to) some value.
These are the different meanings of the word 'neighbourhood' according to the oxford dictionary. This webquest will use the first definition when using the word 'neighbourhood'.
Every neighbourhood in a city will have its own characteristics. It will differ from other neighbourhoods in its architecture, people living there, available public facilities, infrastructure, accessibility, etc. Your research will be conducted in a neighbourhood of your choosing. This can be the area around your school, your own neighbourhood or a different neighbourhood you find interesting.
Below is a list of possible fields of research. It is also possible to come up with a different research topic yourself. You can choose a topic you find interesting or let current problems or events in a neighbourhood inspire you.
Possible research topics are:
- cultural activities;
- art;
- architecture;
- nationality of the inhabitants;
- green space;
- sport accomodations.
